Pisces was founded by John White. A self confessed 'maverick' and hater of bureaucracy he used his 'retirement settlement' from the Regeneration Zones to pursue his own ideals around people, poverty and social exclusion by establishing PISCES wm as a Community Interest Company As a C.I.C it is committed to reinvesting any proceeds back into the well being of the community.
John, a qualified Social Worker, had previously enjoyed a long and lively career as a senior Local Authority manager - he was Area Director of Social Services for the City of Hereford - before announcing himself as a 'rebel with a cause' by quitting his job and buying a shop in rural Herefordshire to establish his own Community Service Consultancy.
He subsequently established the first Rural Shops support service for the Rural Development Commission and later went on to establish the first UK wide development Team for Help the Aged. He also became a local politician and chaired the Economic Development sub Committee of South Herefordshire Council before turning his back on politics in 1997 to return to his roots a grass roots social worker in the Black Country.
Chair is Alvin Vernon, a well known Wolverhampton based social entrepreneur with a mission to change the lives of young people by introducing them into mediums of engagement such as music, creative arts and communication. He has formed a 'sister' organisation 'Reggaetivity' to complement the work of Pisces as it strives to find new ways of enhancing people's lives in some of the poorest and most challenging areas of Great Britain.
They have gathered around them a strong and powerful group of like minded allies some of whom remain in employment in other agencies but subscribe to the ideals of Partnership working.
